"Radio Listeners in Panic, Taking War Drama as Fact" read the New York Times headline on October 31, 1938. Many across the country who tuned in late to Orson Welles' live radio broadcast of H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds became panicked, thinking the broadcast play about aliens invading Earth was in fact real news. Recognizing our current era of smart phones, social media, and instant information--or misinformation--and the impact of January's ballistic missile false alert, the Theatre and Dance Association (TADA) presents a staged reading of Welles' drama in celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the infamous broadcast. All proceeds from this production on the Kennedy Theatre main stage will benefit students of the Department of Theatre + Dance at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
