With an emphasis on maintaining the pristine nature of this beautiful area, the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve places a strong emphasis on conservation. Yet they also strive to share this natural resource with locals and visitors as often as possible. To ensure these competing goals can both be met, Hanauma Bay is closed to visitors every Tuesday to ensure that the fish and bay have one day of undisturbed rest each week. Following this schedule, marine biologists have seen dramatic improvements in the Bay since the preserve was established in 1967.
