Good value

Just returned from 8 nights at the Vive Hotel. If you're looking for a no-frills place to stay then you'll be happy here. Bottom line: no pool, workout room, or restaurant; small basic rooms, good service. Staff was friendly and helpful. They asked at check-in if we were celebrating anything so I told them it was my birthday during our stay. The next day they sent up some snacks with a happy birthday greeting. The room is small, almost Manhattan small. There was no dresser for clothes, just a couple small shelves of the nightstands. Eventually we discovered two drawers in the bed frame. A little awkward but we just kept our clothes in our suitcases. The bathroom is also small with a sliding door. The water pressure is great and hot water was quick to arrive, even on the 18th floor. The bed was pretty comfortable which is good since we both caught colds and ended up spending a lot more time in the room than we anticipated. The AC is a window unit which is typically loud but did the job. There are only two elevators which meant we often had to wait a few minutes. The continental breakfast is nice with several pastry and bread selections, fresh fruit, and hard boiled eggs. Seating in the lobby was sometimes scarce but we managed to find seats all but one day. The location is good, only three blocks to Waikiki/Kuhio Beach. There are many dining options nearby including Hula Dog and Marukame Udon. We didn't plan on renting a car but ended up getting one for almost a full week. Valet parking is cheaper than other hotels in the area and we never waited more than a few minutes for the car. It was very convenient and helpful

Marathon stay

Hotel was well located for the Honolulu Marathon. The people in the hotel were accommodating on having a room available on checkout day to allow for cleaning up after the long run of the marathon and my eminent departure to the airport

A Good Deal

The location is unbeatable--a couple of blocks from the busiest part of Waikiki but still easily accessible to shops, restaurants and the ocean--and feels safe at night with people about. I was there for a good while and interacted with many staff and each and every one of them was gracious, friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet is more than decent (though no eggs cooked to oder, etc.) and is continually restocked, worth $15 per person, I'd say. Breakfast area is the lobby and it's perfect for that with miscellaneous tables and chairs such that you can be left alone or you can chat will other guests, which I did on several occasions. And it's available for 2 1/2 hours. A nice mix of American, European and Asian tourists. At $25 for guests parking is a bargain for this part of Waikiki. No pool (I saw hardly anyone in a pool at any hotel and lots of people in the ocean), no restaurant but there are lots within blocks including the fine Japanese Jin Roku across the street), and the only central air is in the lobby; that's the main drawback as the rooms are cooled by window units which sound like window units. I'm not accustomed to that but it didn't disturb my sleep. I am accustomed to a good bed and thats what Vive has

Priced right but received more than expected

I booked for the marathon at good price. Was met by name at checkin , very profesional and friendly front desk. Room was small but very nice clean and modern. Had no resort fees and free parking with the Kamaina rate. Breakfast was excelent . All around I got more than I paid for. Will stay again
